Skins and themes
Every fighter, trail and theme in Kinetype is drawn from code at runtime. There are no image files to download, which is why the game loads in under a second and why a new skin costs the site nothing to serve. You unlock them with coins you earn by playing.
If you are short on coins, the fastest route is a clean win at a bot speed slightly above your own typing speed. Accuracy pays: the payout counts your best words per minute and your accuracy separately, and a losing streak still pays a little.
Coins are earned by playing. Win rounds, type fast, and keep a streak going.
Fighters
Every fighter is drawn from data, not artwork, so each one loads instantly and costs the site nothing to serve.
- SparkSTARTER
The default build. Balanced, bright, no nonsense.
FreeEquipped - EmberCOMMON
Burns hot. Reads huge knockback.
120 coins - TideCOMMON
Cool and swift. A slim profile for clean dodges.
120 coins - MonolithRARE
A wall with legs. The heaviest frame in the roster.
320 coins - Violet StaticRARE

320 coins - VoidwingLEGENDARY

Themes
A theme repaints the whole fight: the sky, the hills, the stage, the prompt card and the panels around it. Your fighter and the damage colours do not change, so nothing you have learned about reading a hit has to be relearned.
- PaperSTARTER
Daylight. The one the game shipped with.
FreeEquipped - MidnightCOMMON
Deep blue night. Cyan reads like a lit sign.
200 coins - SunsetCOMMON
Dusk over the stage. Orange on purple.
300 coins - FrostCOMMON
Ice field. Pale, cold, high contrast.
300 coins - Neon GridRARE
Blackout arena with acid green trim.
650 coins - VolcanoLEGENDARY
Ash and lava. The stage is already losing.

About paying
Every skin is earned by playing right now. Direct purchases unlock with multiplayer, so there is someone to show it off to.
That is deliberate, not an oversight. A cosmetic is worth buying when there is somebody to show it to, and right now you are fighting a bot. Card checkout goes live with multiplayer.
